Matthew Claussen, MD

Family Physician

About Me

Matt Claussen, MD. I received my medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) in Denver, Colorado along with my residency and boards certification in family medicine in UCHSC’s Swedish Family Medicine Residency Program. I serve as the practice's medical director and enjoy all aspects and challenges of family medicine. I believe in an active approach to health and in developing close, trusting relationships with my patients. Relationships and helping people are cornerstones of fulfillment for me. Education has always been a passion for me, too. I remain a senior clinical faculty member with UCHSC and support our fantastic Aspen team with its many educational endeavors. This education includes high school educational career tracks through master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral education programs.

I provide primary care for newborns, children, adolescents and adults. I particularly enjoy sports medicine, complex illness diagnosis and management, adolescent medicine, and performing procedures, such as skin biopsies, laceration repairs, and laser/phototherapy treatment for various skin conditions.

Family planning is an important and personal decision. I have extensive experience in vasectomies and am pleased to provide minimally-invasive techniques to limit any downtime and enhance a speedy recovery.

I have been board certified in family medicine through the American Board of Family Practice since 1997 and continue active education and training as part of that ongoing certification process. I also have a non-ABMS board certification obtained in 2011 through the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. I am a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, American Medical Association, Colorado Medical Society and Phi Beta Kappa. I am a University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Senior Clinical Faculty Member for Family Medicine, and participate as an instructor in several institutions regarding training track programs for physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

When not working with patients, I spend my time with family and friends and enjoy outdoor activities including sports, running, biking, hiking, skiing, photography, painting, music/guitar playing, and gardening.
